Windows Live Messenger completely blows its predecessor out of the water. First, instead of a simple list of names, you have a slightly larger list with icons next to the name to make it easier to identify who you’re talking to (in case you forget who SuperStar99 is), and you can adjust the size so they don’t get in the way. You can upload your own photo or choose from all kinds of wacky preloaded icons (They’re getting bolder with their choices too. You’ll see.) The colors are lighter & more pastel-like, giving it a noticeably more peaceful feel. You can still change the themes, but there are dozens more choices. It’s not just islands & butterflies anymore. You can pick from all kinds of backgrounds. Chat-boxes are larger & more friendly, but still adjustable. You can transfer files just by dragging them into the box & waiting for the person to accept. You can even play games and make pc-to-pc phone calls. Having trouble reaching someone? No matter, you can still send them a message if they’re offline. They’ll get it when they log on, just like a tiny email.
